ARDS TOURISM BACKS A WINNER AT BALLYGRAFFAN
Ards Borough Council and Ards Tourism have selected a winning event,
Ballygraffan International Horse Trials to support for the first time
in 2007. Having won a ‘Best Event in Ireland’ award, this
quality event is recognized both locally and internationally.
Set just about a mile outside of Comber on the Killinchy Road, the stunning
location lends itself to the superbly designed world-class course, where
over two days local and international riders are challenged in the three
disciplines of Dressage, Show-Jumping and Cross Country.
On Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th April, spectators will enjoy not only
the sporting spectacle but also the Market Village with its delicious
products, homemade food-traders and a fabulous eclectic selection of gifts.
A perfect day out for all the family.
"We're delighted to be sponsoring the horse trials for the first
time in 2007, an event which is set not only to provide two days of great
entertainment whether or not you're an horse enthusiast, but also to highlight
the beauty and attractions of the Comber area and of the Ards in general.
It is another example of the kind of quality event which showcases the
Ards as a visitor destination and encourages our visitors to come back
and explore a bit more," said Councillor Angus Carson, Mayor of Ards.
Horse
Trials provide a competition, which is the equestrian version of the modern
pentathlon, requiring courage, determination and all round ability on
the part of the rider and systematic training of the horse. Horse Trials,
more popularly known as eventing, is the ultimate test of horsemanship.
It is distinctive in that male and female riders compete against each
other on level footing for equal rewards. This fantastic spectator sport
is well worth a visit on a Spring weekend in April.
